Sitting within the assigned cubicle in a classroom that the school provided for art students, the stool I made is a commentary on the experience as an artist within institutions as both privileges and regulations accompanied. The work represents a figure sitting on a stool during the last critique and, theoretically, through the winter break. The nails punched into the wall of my workspace, a cubicle within the classroom, irony with the sense of correspondence with the office cubicles, solidifies and restricts the presence of the chair figure as to its rooting within the space throughout time. Then, this time, the figure will participate in an ongoing critique, starting from the actual critique and continuing to the fictional critique during the winter break. Sitting there and looking forward, it is a question of what the figure is critiquing in an unoccupied room. Is it an imaginary work, the classroom, or the entire institution where the stool figure resides within and stares over?
