Daily Wash

Sculpture

Repetition within an institution, the piece comments on the constant restriction upon certain actions that I, as a part of the institution, need to perform every day in order to satisfy the established “needs” set by the authorities. These red hands symbolize my hands, objectified into tools I took off daily and washed to prepare for the next day, just like the clothes I cleaned. The creation of art can then be perceived as the production of objects through routinized creativity, as hands are machines in production that need repair and cleaning. It is a discussion of the restrictions within life that one needs to perform and adapt to achieve an aspect of “normality” and survive within society.
